Global Warming Mitigation Project announces winners of the 2024 Keeling Curve Prize

SUN VALLEY, IDAHO, July 17, 2024 — On July 15, the Global Warming Mitigation Project announced the ten winners of its annual Keeling Curve Prize. This initiative honors climate organizations worldwide that have shown exceptional innovation and commitment to addressing climate change in their respective fields. The prize pool is $500,000, with each winner receiving $50,000.


Named after the Keeling Curve, a graph representing the concentration of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere, the Keeling Curve Prize aims to support and accelerate the growth of projects driving progressive change toward reducing carbon emissions. The winners receive funding and ongoing support to help scale their solutions.

"We are thrilled to celebrate and support these visionary projects," said Jacquelyn Francis, founding executive director. "The 2024 Keeling Curve Prize winners are leading the way in creating a sustainable future, and we are honored to be part of their journey."


The 2024 Keeling Curve Prize winners were announced at the opening night of the Sun Valley Forum in Ketchum, Idaho, on Monday.


An overview of each of the winners can be found below:


Carbon Sinks:

  • BIOSORRA: breaks the cycle of land degradation by providing organic fertilizer (biochar) and training to farmers and farming cooperatives across Kenya.

  • InPlanet: enables farmers in the tropics to remove atmospheric CO2 and move toward more sustainable agricultural practices.

Energy:

  • Climatenza Solar: innovates concentrated solar solutions for sustainable development that contribute to social and environmental well-being.

  • SOLshare: provides cutting-edge technology and services through a globally recognized service platform.

Finance:

  • Blue Forest: brings communities, finance, and science together to restore and protect our forests and watersheds.

  • Climatize: transforms solar financing & investing to make it more efficient, transparent & accessible.

Social & Cultural Pathways:

Transport & Mobility:

  • itselectric: partners with city property owners to unlock access to untapped electricity supply while they earn passive income.

  • Seabound: builds carbon capture equipment for large cargo ships and traps up to 95% of the CO2 from its exhaust.


Since its launch in 2018, the Keeling Curve Prize has recognized and supported numerous groundbreaking initiatives across various categories, awarding $2.25M to 70 nonprofits, for-profits, and startups.
