Overview: Trillion Trees and the Forest Restoration Catalyst
Delivering and scaling high quality Forest landscape Restoration is key to Trillion Trees strategy. We support existing programmes in all the tropical forest regions, working at the forest frontier, where greatest forest restoration potential exists to address land use change and deliver positive outcomes for biodiversity and rural people.
High quality Forest Landscape Restoration sequesters carbon, increases food security, addresses rural poverty, and benefits critical biodiversity. Delivering it at scale requires substantial financing, hinging on a robust investment case and a strong enabling environment. But few projects pioneering nature-based solutions have the resources to reach investment readiness. The Forest Restoration Catalyst (FRC) has been developed by Trillion Trees to address this need.
The FRC works by co-creating landscape level initiatives with local communities, supporting pilot projects, and ensuring equitable benefit-sharing mechanisms. It offers catalytic funding, facilitating the foundational work needed to create long-term, sustainable business models to deliver high quality FLR. Projects are designed to capitalise on outcomes-based financing opportunities and working through the complexities of de-risking business plans where biodiversity and climate gains are made alongside financial gains for local communities and investors.
