Oorja is a Farming-as-a-Service company working at the intersection between clean energy and sustainable agriculture. It provides affordable solar-powered irrigation and milling services as well as climate-smart farm advisory to smallholder farmers on a Pay Per Use (PPU) basis, in weak-grid areas of northern India. We are proud to have pioneered the inclusive and customer-centric PPU model for productive use appliances in agriculture to eliminate the upfront technology acquisition cost barrier for last-mile BoP farmers, with less than 2 acres landholding and incomes of around INR 60,000 / USD 100 per year. Oorja installs, operates and maintains decentralised solar assets at/near the farm and through its services reduces energy costs, increases productivity and income and mitigates CO2e emissions, building climate resilience for farmers.

Fellowship Description:

Oorja is seeking an innovative and analytical Data Analytics & Product Development Fellow to support our Innovation team in scaling impactful digital tools for smallholder farmers. This role focuses on the development and roll-out of our "Dhoop" farmer advisory app, as well as internal monitoring tools to enhance operational efficiency. You will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to lead product assessments, guide the software development process, and devise strategies for product adoption.

The ideal candidate has experience in user testing, data-driven product improvement, and supporting product development lifecycles, with a passion for leveraging technology to support climate resilience and sustainable agriculture.

Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Innovation Manager to support the rollout of the "Dhoop" farmer advisory app.
- Lead user testing phases (alpha and beta) to gather insights and inform product iterations.
- Develop product specifications and tender documents for software engineering partners.
- Work closely with development agencies to ensure timely delivery and product alignment with user needs.
- Design strategies to promote adoption and effective use of tech products among end-users.
- Co-develop and improve Oorja’s Internal Monitoring System (IMS) to enhance operational workflows.
- Research and recommend new data-driven features, such as climate hazard alerts and seasonal forecasts.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree (or pursuing a degree) in Data Science, Product Management, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 1+ years of experience in product development, user testing, or data analysis (internships included), or equivalent knowledge / experience.

Technical Skills:

- Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, Python, and/or SQL) and user research methodologies.
- Familiarity with agile product development and software testing frameworks.
- Strong understanding of mobile app development processes and stakeholder collaboration.

Soft Skills & Attributes:

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proactive and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.

Time Commitment:  15-30 hours / week
